WSB-TV’s Adopt A Golden Atlanta Commercial

Greetings AGA Friends!

Boy, oh, boy – do I have some “golden” news to share… Our wonderful friends at WSB-TV created a public service ad that promotes adoption of golden retrievers, like me, through Adopt A Golden Atlanta. Believe it or not, this is AGA’s first television commercial and can be seen exclusively on WSB-TV!

Adopt A Golden Atlanta’s commercial features Dr. Michale Davis and her beloved golden O’Toole. As a new AGA orphan, O’Toole was taken to the vet for his physical exam and vaccines. In comes Dr. Davis… She is the Medical Director of VCA Buckhead Animal Hospital and was the vet who saw O’Toole. The two were a perfect match; so perfect that Dr. Davis adopted O’Toole. Stories like this one are what AGA is all about.

Check out the commercial and save the link: http://www.wsbtv.com/videos/news/adopt-a-golden-atlanta/vdBTR/ to watch it again. Also, be sure to share with family and friends!

We could not be happier or prouder about this commercial. I’ve heard humans say that “actions speak louder than words,” so I wish you could see my tail wagging with excitement! Woof, woof! Not only do I want to thank all the folks at WSB-TV, but I also want to thank Dr. Michale Davis and my buddy O’Toole.

“I’m friends with a TV star!”

Many thanks & wet kisses,

“Hey y’all!” – That’s how you Georgia peaches say hello, right?

Please allow me to introduce myself – my name is Krystal and I’m originally a Florida girl. By now, you are  probably wondering how I ended up in Georgia, right? Here is my story:

As a 9-year-old golden girl, my owners had to surrender me to Everglades Golden Retrieve Rescue—the local golden rescue. It was mostly because I have been dealing with skin issues. EGGR gave me vet care and took me to a dermatologist. However, I was still itchy, scabby and not getting much relief. The worst part – I had to wear a cone 24/7.

 In comes Adopt A Golden Atlanta! Dun… Dun… Dun…

As some of you know, AGA has had wonderful success helping dogs with allergies.  The big problem was getting me from South Florida to Atlanta!

Luckily, a wonderful friend of AGA was flying in from Orlando in his own plane. I was the best co-pilot – I may even consider it as a part time gig. Look at me in action!

After my big journey, AGA began to take really good care of me. I had biopsies and cultures taken to send out for testing. In the meantime, the AGA vet began making some changes, including: new food, new meds and daily medicated soaks and baths. Results came in and we found out that I have an auto-immune disease that causes my body to attack and destroy skin cells.

The good news: I’m responding well to the new medications. I already look great again (see below) and smell “so fresh and so clean.” Best of all—I’m no longer itchy, so the cone has been banished to the closet.

The bad news: I’ve been at the vet nearly three weeks. I will be here for another two weeks. I need my daily medicated soaks and baths. In order to pay for all of my bills, AGA needs to raise $4,800.  AGA has been extremely kind to me—they saved my life for goodness sake! Please donate to the Krystal Fund so they can pay my bills and help others, like me.

Despite everything I have been going through, I am the happiest golden girl.  I love all the attention I receive, when I hang out at the vet’s front desk. Since the vet has helped me out so much, I’m giving back by being the “Official Welcome Committee.” My duties include wagging my tail and smiling to all visitors –people, dogs and cats.

I am forever grateful to Adopt A Golden Atlanta. You guys have changed my entire life!

Thank you for reading my story and thank you in advance for your donations.

Love,

Krystal

Golden Retriever Rescues across the country are part of the National Rescue Committee of the Golden Retriever Club of America. There are currently a total of 120 rescues dedicated to saving Golden Retrievers. Each year, the Golden Retriever Club of America recognizes one rescue which has made a significant contribution to Golden Retriever Rescue efforts and exemplifies the story below.

Starfish AwardA young man is walking along the ocean and sees a beach on which thousands and thousands of starfish have washed ashore. Further along he sees an old man, walking slowly and stooping often, picking up one starfish after another and tossing each one gently into the ocean.

“Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” he asks. “Because the sun is up and the tide is going out and if I don’t throw them further in they will die.”

“But, old man, don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it! You can’t possibly save them all, you can’t even save one-tenth of them. In fact, even if you work all day, your efforts won’t make any difference at all.”

The old man listened calmly and then bent down to pick up another starfish and throw it into the sea. “It made a difference to that one.”

According to Carol Allen, Chair of the National Rescue Committee of the Golden Retriever Club of America: “Adopt a Golden Atlanta is being recognized for its creative and generous effort in assisting a group of their adopters in Tennessee in forming a Golden Retriever Rescue organization. Moral support and day-by-day advice were provided, in addition to policy/procedure manual, job descriptions and forms, sharing of the licensing rights to the professionally designed logo, website design, a custom database, seed money and the training of all board members and team leaders by Adopt a Golden Atlanta volunteers. As a result, Adopt a Golden Knoxville began operation in 2011. Additionally, because of the same generous sharing, Adopt a Golden Birmingham began operation early in 2012. Adopt a Golden Atlanta also contributed significantly to the development of Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta.” The award will be presented at the 2012 National Specialty in St.Louis.

Lauren Genkinger, Founder & President of Adopt a Golden Atlanta, said: “On behalf of our board of directors and all our volunteers and supporters who make AGA what it is today, I thank the GRCA for this recognition. We started AGA in 2003 to make a difference, one golden at a time. As we approach our 3,000th golden saved, it is more than gratifying to know we are helping others do the same thing.”

Meet Sydney and Mattie

Meet Sydney and Mattie, Adopt A Golden Atlanta’s May Orphans of the Month!

Sydney is a 5 year old golden girl and her long-time buddy here is Mattie, a 5 year old Great Dane. Sydney loves chasing tennis balls and spending time with humans. Mattie enjoys exploring new places and taking long naps. These sweet girls may look and act very different, but when it’s time to go on walks or play at the dog park their bond is unmistakable. While they like each other’s company, they aren’t fond of small dogs and we aren’t sure if they like cats. Sydney and Mattie can’t wait to share their love and make new memories with their new family!

Mattie and Sydney are featured in Adopt A Golden Atlanta’s monthly newsletter– the Golden Gazette. Be sure to join the mailing list to receive great articles and the latest information from AGA.
