I’m Carbon… but I’ve never really been “just” Carbon. Where you see one of us, you’ll almost always see the other. My brother, Coal, and I were found together as strays in rural North Georgia. We stayed side by side, just like we always have. When we landed in a shelter, we shared a kennel, curled up close, and tried to make the scary place feel a little less overwhelming.

A kind volunteer saw us posted, and when no one came to claim us, AGA stepped in and scooped us up. Just like that, we were safe, together. We’re both about 2 years old, likely brothers, and flat-coated retriever with gentle hearts. I (Carbon) weigh about 67 pounds, and Coal is about 72 pounds. We’re described as calm, sweet, and just a little unsure of the world, but we love people and lean into affection once we know we’re safe.

We don’t guard our food, we don’t react to other dogs around us, and we ride nicely in the car. Mostly, we just like being close, to each other and to our humans. If one of us is resting, the other is usually touching him. It’s how we’ve always done life.

We’re hoping there’s a family out there with room in their hearts (and on their couch) for two gentle boys who promise double the love, double the loyalty, and double the quiet companionship. We’ve always faced the world side by side. We’d love to keep it that way. With hope, Carbon & Coal
