Life has taught me a lot in my first year, but the biggest thing I’ve learned is that I love being alive — especially when there’s something to do. I’m Mark, a one-year-old, 48-pound boy who is always ready for my next adventure. Not long ago, I was found as a stray with another dog. We were underfed, dirty, and trying to figure things out on our own. Thankfully, the shelter knew we deserved better, and that’s when AGA stepped in and changed everything.
I’m a higher-energy dog who thrives with a daily routine, plenty of physical and mental exercise, and time outdoors. I’d make a great hiking or adventure buddy. A large, fenced yard would be a dream come true since I LOVE being outside. I’m still learning how wonderful slow moments and couch cuddles can be, but I’m getting there. And, if I’m bored, I’ll let you know (I’m working on using calmer ways to say it).
I’m house-trained and have been sleeping through the night pretty well – I have even been great with crate training, at night and when left home alone. I have a tendency (just like any young dog) to eat socks and things – so the crate has been very helpful for me to be safe, quiet, and comfortable. I walk nicely on a leash, but I’m still working on staying calm when other dogs pass by. I can be dog-selective and need slow, thoughtful introductions — as I’m still learning how to play with toys, balls, and even other dogs.
Since I was underfed and scavenging to get by before I came to AGA, I act very hungry and am food-motivated. That is helping me to be trained, but it also makes me bark for food quite a bit. With patience, consistency, and continued positive socialization, I know I can keep growing into the best version of myself. I already know how to sit and lie down, and I practice these often (especially before meals) as I learn how to settle and focus.
I may do best as an only dog or with the right confident canine companion, and I’d prefer a home without cats or young kids, as I’m tall and still have some puppy tenancies, like jumping and play biting that I am learning to control.
So, if you’re looking for an active, smart, and loving dog who’s ready to grow with you, I just might be your match. Much Love, Mark
