Hi everyone… my name is Neely, and I’ve had a pretty hard couple of weeks. But thanks to AGA, I’m safe, I’m healing, and I’m finally getting the chance to dream about a real forever home. Early one Sunday morning, I was lying alone in a field, hurting and scared. I cried until someone heard me — one of AGA’s amazing volunteers. She came right over, saw how much pain I was in, and promised she wouldn’t leave me. She named me Neely, after the nearby lake, and rushed me for help.

At the Emergency Animal Hospital, the doctors learned a lot about what I’d been through. I didn’t have a microchip. I had a badly broken leg, I was covered in ticks and fleas, and my stomach had little rocks and bones in it from trying to find anything I could to survive. They think I’d been out on my own for about two weeks and maybe hit by a car. I’m around four years old and about 10–15 pounds underweight, but I’m tough, and I never gave up.

AGA transported me to Atlanta so the orthopedic specialist could help me. On Monday, I had surgery to put a plate in my leg. Now I need six weeks of rest, maybe some rehab, and lots of love and patience while I get stronger. I’m currently about 60 pounds, but I’ve got some healthy weight to gain. Even with everything I’ve been through, I can’t help but love people. I’m a gentle boy who gives soft kisses, leans in for cuddles, and likes to keep my eyes on you all the time. My foster mom says I must have lived in a home before because I walked right in like I belonged there. I take treats politely, I’ve had no accidents, and I really love the couch — especially if someone is sitting with me. Dogs? I’ve done well meeting them on leash. Cats? I’m not sure yet. But humans? I adore them. I’m a survivor, but more importantly, I’m a sweet, loving, velcro kind of dog who just wants to feel safe and close to my people.

While I am not quite ready for adoption, but when I am, I will be looking for a home that will take care of me while I finish healing. Someone who can help me gain weight, keep me calm during recovery, and give me the same love that I’m ready to give right back. AGA and their incredible community saved my life. Now I’m hoping someone out there will give me a lifetime of safety, comfort, and family. If you think that could be you… I will be right here, waiting until I am ready for adoption. Love, Neely
