My name is Rowan, and my name means strength — something I didn’t know I had until someone finally saw me. I am 1.5 years old, and I weigh about 40 pounds. For pretty much my whole life, I lived on my own, wandering a suburban neighborhood and trying to survive near busy roads. I was scared, hungry, and hurting. An old puppy collar had become embedded in my neck, which was so deep and infected. I didn’t know how to ask for help… but one brave human refused to look away. She trapped me safely, took me in overnight, and changed my life forever.
AGA stepped in and promised I’d never be alone again. I had an emergency vet visit to remove the collar and clean the infection, then another one close the wound, and I was spayed too. Now I’m healing — inside and out. I am likely a golden/lab/terrier mix with a whole lot of puppy still in me.
Because of my past, I do best in a secure, fenced yard and need a home that understands I’m still learning the world is safe. I’d thrive with someone who is home more than not and can continue helping me build confidence at a steady, loving pace. Having another playful dog in the home is a must for me. I’m great with other dogs, and I am learning quickly from them in my foster home.
I have no resource guarding, I’m learning house manners, and I respond very well to gentle redirection. I’m doing great with house training, sleep on a cozy dog bed in the bedroom at night, and relax in a crate when my people leave the house. I’m still nervous at times, so a home without small kids would be best, but I truly want to be close to my people and my dog friends. Every day, I grow more confident, more curious, and more trusting.
I didn’t have an easy start, but my future is finally bright. If you have patience, kindness, a fenced yard, and a friendly dog who wouldn’t mind showing me the ropes, I promise to give you my whole heart. With strength and hope, Rowan
