A Golden Guide to the Fourth: Tips for a Safe & Stress-Free Holiday
Happy (almost) Fourth of July from all of us at Adopt a Golden Atlanta! While this holiday is filled with fireworks, friends, and festive fun, it can be a stressful time for our furry companions. But don’t worry, we’ve got your paws covered with tips, treats, and tail-wagging ideas to help your Golden have a safe and stress-free celebration.
Start the Sound Prep Early
Ease your pup into fireworks season by playing soft crackling or boom-like noises at home. Gradually increase the volume and pair the sounds with treats or cuddles. A little practice now can help reduce big stress later!
Tire Them Out
Plan for an active morning! Take your dog on a long walk, schedule a playdate, or get in a game of fetch. A happy, tired Golden is more likely to snooze through the evening noise.
Hold the Table Scraps
We know those puppy eyes are hard to resist, but not everything from the grill is safe to share!
Skip: bones, corn cobs, chocolate, onions, grapes, alcohol.
Try: frozen peanut butter treats (xylitol-free), watermelon slices (no seeds), and ice cubes for a cool-down.
Pro tip: set up a dog-friendly snack table with safe goodies and plenty of fresh water. Your golden will feel like part of the party without the tummy troubles later.
Build a Calm Corner
Pick a quiet room in your home where your pup can feel safe. Add cozy blankets, familiar toys, and calming sounds like a fan or soft music. Bonus: cover a crate with a lightweight blanket to make a soothing den.
Stay Inside & Double Check ID Tags
Before the fireworks start, ensure all doors and gates are closed and secured. Double-check your golden’s ID tags and microchip info in case they get startled and bolt. Safety first, just in case!
