1/18: Aspen is now stable and is in fostercare recovering from her surgeries and aftermath. We are still awaiting test results to help determine what was the cause of her bleeding and clotting issues. UPDATE: Following a routine spay, fluid began to build up in Aspen’s abdomen and another surgery was performed to find the cause. A small tear in the uterus was discovered and repaired. Post op blood work indicated she was losing blood and needed monitoring. Subsequent blood tests revealed further blood loss and she needed blood transfusions. Red blood cell volume increased but remained low and her body had depleted all clotting factors. Frozen plasma was administered. Two additional blood transfusions were given. A coagulation panel was run to determine if an underlying issue could be the cause of bleeding. Results were negative for a bleeding disorder. Today, she broke out in hives and spiked a fever of 106! All of this and she has heartworms. She has been in critical care all week and her bills are over $10,000. We have set up an Aspen fund. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated. BACKGROUND: You probably couldn’t tell that I’m 5 and maybe you weren’t 100% sure I was a girl dog but one thing you can’t miss, if you look at my picture, is that I am a redhead! A lot of us were movie stars and television stars and we always had a reputation for being lively girls! I got lost for some reason I don’t remember but a kind person made sure I ended up with AGA. I am a real “people” dog, get along just fine with other dogs and I’m ready to travel anytime the car door is open! I do have to admit my one little failing and that’s that I love chasing cats. But on the plus side, if they turn and chase back or try to smack my nose- well- I’m out of there. The bad news is that somewhere, when I was on my own, a mosquito bit me and now I have heartworms. I am really disappointed that now I have to have some special shots to get rid of them to say nothing of the $500 it costs!! Now I am feeling better about this because AGA said they have a whole bunch of angels and that I can ask them for help. That was great news and so I asked and a very special family of angels was standing by and sent me the money so now I can get better. We redheads don’t let much get us down but I was so worried until my angels came. Thank you The McQuaid Family! In a few weeks I will be healthy again and be able to find my own family and have a wonderful life. Thank you everyone, Aspen
