Adopt a Golden Atlanta rescued its 2000th dog today. His name is Baxter and he is a 4 year old, purebred male golden retriever whose family had to give him up because they were relocating and could not take him with them. Baxter is what is called an “owner turn in” – meaning owners have to surrender their dogs for many reasons and do not want to take the dog to a shelter where the likelihood of the dog being put down is quite high. Focusing on owner surrendered dogs allows AGA to know the medical history of the dog, the dog’s temperament and behavior. The city’s other golden rescue focuses on shelter dogs and AGA operates as a backup to them. Baxter is a great ambassador for the golden retriever breed and his good nature and sweet spirit have earned him a place in the heart of one very special little girl! Yes, that’s right – Baxter has been adopted! He now has a new mom and dad who have promised to love him and give him everything he needs (and wants too if you ask Baxter). In addition, he has a special little friend named Emilie that will soon be his very best friend. She was wanting a special dog of her own and Baxter was just her guy. In no time at all these two are going to be like two peas in a pod. They are going to have a grand time playing dress up, tea party, with Barbies and hopefully for Baxter playing in the back yard. These two are going to make dreams come true…
