LOOK AT BEN NOW! Ben is a 4 year old purebred blind male golden who was found as a stray. His blindness is caused by retinal degeneration. Ben was born with a gene that caused progressive blindness. There is no cure. Ben’s doctor believes he has been without sight for some time as he seems comfortable relying on his other senses. He is curious, confident and very loving. He is a terrific dog. Ben loves people – he will go up to anyone who gives him attention. He has a very acute sense of hearing and a good sense of direction. He will bump into things, back up, go around and move on. He is not scared or nervous around new things. As long as his feet are on a solid surface, he is great. He manages curbing, slopes and surfaces without difficulty. He is a fair leash walker but tends to walk first to one side and then the other which we think he just his technique for scoping out the space ahead of him — kind of like scanning. He loves to go on walks and hikes, he plays with toys and he is learning lots of verbal commands. He loves riding in the car. For his own protection, he must always be inside a fence and not allowed access to steep flights of stairs or other dangers. He is a “nudger” and he likes to put his head under your arm or between your knees. He loves for you to massage his eyes. Ben deserves a special home and a very special owner.
