Hi there, I’m Calloway, a gentle old soul looking for a soft place to land. For a long time, I wandered alone through Pike County, where there’s no animal control, just me, the road, and a lot of hope that someone would see me. One day, a kind family did. They brought me into their home and gave me something I hadn’t felt in a while: safety. But with four dogs already in the pack, it turned out there just wasn’t room for one more. Even though their pups didn’t quite welcome me, I’m still a lover at heart. I’ve been staying with a wonderful foster, and she (along with the vet!) says I’m the sweetest old man you’ll ever meet. I’m calm, easygoing, and gentle, just looking for someone to stroll through life with.
I walk beautifully on a leash, I know commands, ride well in the car, and get along with cats and other dogs, but I would be happiest in a home where I am the only dog. I just like my mealtime and toy time to be respected. I prefer to eat in peace, and who can blame me? I’ve known what it’s like to go hungry. I’m also good with cats and older kids (teens and up), and I have no problem meeting new people. I’m about 9 years old and 79 pounds of quiet companionship. I’ve recently been shaved, so I may look a little different right now, but my heart is golden through and through.
I do need to share one thing… I’m heartworm positive. But don’t worry, it’s treatable! I just need a sponsor to help cover my $1,000 treatment so I can continue my journey to a full and healthy life.
