Chessie is a beautiful 5 year old purebred male golden retriever that we got from a golden rescue in Virgina. He was an owner surrender due to resource guarding his food (which is no longer an issue) and was too active and needy for his family. Chessie was first placed in a foster home with 6 other dogs and a number of children and from the outset, Chessie had trouble adapting to this house. His resource guarding heightened and he needed to be separated from the other dogs. Chessie was restless, irritable and very nervous. The foster tried various things to calm him down, then we learned that he did better as the only dog in the home. He calmed down, was no longer restless, and slept easily. This change in Chessie happened literally overnight. There were no problems with resource guarding and Chessie actually waited to be told to eat. Now he is living the good boy life with his new family – enjoying his walks, interacting well with everyone and relaxing and chilling at home in sunny Florida. Mom and dad came to Atlanta just to pick out their sunny golden boy and now he is soaking up the spoils of family life.
