GO TO VIDEO LINK AT END!!! Meet Chloe, she is a purebred female golden retriever who was born with a heart defect. When she came to us she had just turned 5 months old and suffered from what is called Patent Ductus Arteriosis (PDA) (PDA) is the most common congenital heart disease in dogs. Some breeds are more commonly affected however Golden Retrievers are not in that group. For unknown reasons the defect occurs twice as often in females as males. Interestingly this same condition occurs in humans. Simply stated, this condition occurs when a structure in the fetal heart does not close as it should within a few days of birth. This defect causes the blood to flow abnormally between the heart and lung and is diagnosed within the first few month of life. Without surgery Chloe would have experience heart failure and died. However, the good news is that with corrective open-heart surgery Chloe is expected to live a completely normal life. So our Chloe had her surgery and after a minimal recovery time she will able to resume the normal activities of a healthy, happy 5 month old pup. Of course she still has her follow up visits ahead of her, but her surgery went perfectly and now her tagging is happily wagging too! Our sweet girl has found her new home. Mom and dad came to us looking for a sweet loveable golden girl for their three daughters ages 6, 5 and 3 and they all agreed that Chloe was the one. The girls are even excited about the chores that come along with owning a puppy. Now, they are having a great time taking her for walks and introducing her to all of their neighborhood friends.
