COMET HAS BEEN REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY AND IS ENJOYING LIFE AGAIN WITH HIS MOM AND DAD AND BOYS. THEY HAVE PROMISED TO GIVE COMET HIS DAILY EXERCISE AND KEEP HIM FIT AND TRIM. IN RETURN, COMET WILL LOVE THEM WITH ALL HIS HEART AND THANK THEM EVERYDAY FOR PUTTING HIS NEEDS BEFORE THEIRS. 4/16/11 UPDATE: COMET COMPLETES HIS PHYSICAL THERAPY THIS COMING AND IF HE GETS A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH BY HIS DOCTOR, HE WILL BE GOING HOME. CROSS YOUR PAWS FOR THIS WONDERFUL PUP. 1/30/11 UPDATE: Comet’s hip surgeries have both gone very well and he is recovering quickly. That’s the good news. The not so good news is, now that his left hip is fixed it is apparent that his left knee is also causing him pain so unfortunately he will need to have knee surgery as well. That will be done Monday and then after THREE orthopedic surgeries he will be ready to go to his foster family for rehabilitation next Friday. The best news is after he recovers from all of this he should be good as new, actually better than new! –1/22 UPDATE: COMET HAD HIS SECOND HIP SURGERY TODAY AND CAME THROUGH WITH FLYING COLORS. NOW IT IS REHAB ALL THE WAY. HE IS GETTING COLD LASER TREATMENTS NOW TO HELP HEALING AND WILL THEN GET HOT COMPRESSES AND START HIS STRETCHING AND WALKING EXERCISES. WE STILL HAVE TO RAISE THE REMAINDER OF HIS MONEY. HE IS ALMOST HALF WAY TO HIS GOAL. PLEASE GIVE A DONATION IN HIS HONOR SO WE CAN GET HIM BACK TO HIS FAMILY. UPDATE: XRays revealed both of Comet’s hips have to have FHO surgery. His knees are fine but are sore due to compensating for his hips. He is having surgery on one hip today and will have his second hip done in two weeks. Comet will also have to under go weeks of physical therapy but his prognosis is good once he has the surgeries and is healed. He will be out of pain and will be able to run like the wind. And, he will never have hip problems again. Due to a very kind vet, we have been able to reduce the amount we need to raise to $3,000 and that includes his physical therapy. Please help us get this pup back to his family by making a donation to the Comet Fund. We will post photos of his journey to being pain free soon. BACKGROUND:
Comet is an 8 month old purebred male golden retriever. He was adopted from a shelter in Tennessee by a very nice family who loves him very much. They took him to the vet and got him up to date on vaccines and neutered him. They were so happy to have a cheerful puppy. A few days ago they brought him in to the vet because he seemed to be limping a bit. The vet felt a loose left kneecap and saw that Comet was in severe hip pain when trying to pose him for the XRays. The XRays showed his right hip was out of the socket. Their vet told them that both hips may be in need of surgery due to dysplasia. They were heartbroken to hear the news. They have a large family with 4 kids (9, 7, 4 and a newborn) and they just cannot take on the financial obligation of the surgery for sweet Comet. So, AGA agreed to help Comet and bring him into our program. When we picked up Comet, there was an envelope from the two older kids. They gave us a donation of their Christmas money to go towards Comet’s surgery – $200! That is an awful lot for young children so we know how much he is loved! Comet is scheduled for additional XRays in a few days. We will then determine what can be done and how much money we need to raise. We believe we have a wonderful opportunity here – to show the kids who donated their money to help their dog that good things can happen when you do good things for others in need and in this case, their beloved puppy Comet. If we raise the money to fix Comet and the family can help with his aftercare and rehab when appropriate, we will give Comet back to his family. Please stay tuned to find out how many thousands of dollars we will be raising so we can get this pup back to his family. He has a pretty good start with his $200.
