Meet Dempsey. We thought he was about 10 years of age. He is a big, independent guy. He is also skinny but still weighs nearly 90 pounds. He was picked up as a stray and taken to a shelter. No one came looking for him. We cleaned him up and and put him into fostercare. Dempsey was a perfect house guest. Then we got an email from a girl in Seattle who was looking for the family dog. Mom came home from work one day and the gate was open and there was some suspicious things suggesting someone had been there and let their dog out. Her mom had called the shelter looking for her chow/golden and put an ad in Craig’s list to no avail. Could we have him? She provided an exact description of Dempsey except Dempsey was Toby and was 14 and a half years old!! Mom is Asian and had some communication problems with the shelter…plus Toby wasn’t a chow… he is a golden/collie mix. With some further investigation, we found out Toby was only one street away from his home when he was picked up by animal control and had only been out for about an hour. He sure was happy to get home and Mom was so very happy to see him. We asked how she was able to keep a 90 pound dog who was nearly 15 years old so healthy. She replied: no meat, no dog food…. only tofu, brown rice and soy sauce. Toby loves it and was looking forward to his favorite dinner.
We were so happy to reunite Toby with his family… a family who loves him very much.
