They call me Doobie- that’s DOO-BEE- the Mystery Dog. All anyone knew was that I used to live in a place called Alabama and I am a purebred Golden Retriever. I got lost, ended up being taken to a place with lots of other dogs and then I hitched a ride to AGA and here I am. Good thing too because the Golden Grapevine says this is the place to be when you need help finding a new home!!. AGA sent over a reporter to interview me and try and get some more information. Interview means you answer questions and I could see that wasn’t going to work because dogs don’t talk so we just hung out and got to know each other. My dog doctor says that I am probably about 7 years old which, of course, is the perfect age to know when to play and when to settle and rest. I like toys that squeak and tennis balls too. I am one of those incredibly lovable Goldens known as a “nudger”. That means I push my nose in your hands to remind you I need petting (and I have a long beautiful coat just made for that) and sometimes put my head between your knees and hide my eyes so you can scratch behind my ears. The reporter told me I was a handsome, huggable fellow which was kind of embarrassing —-but secretly I liked it! I can’t tell you about my old life but I am thrilled to tell you about my new life! I have a great new mom and dad and a new sister too! My new sister is a black lab named Dixie, who was also a rescue. I am protective of toys and so is Dixie, so mom had to buy double toys for us. My favorite ones are the food puzzles, unless I’m having a blonde moment and can’t figure it out. But the best part about living here is that mom and dad take us both to a wonderful place called “dog park” and it is great!! It has 3 fenced runs, and one is for big dogs like me. If it’s not too hot, we play tennis ball. Speaking of tennis balls, we have lots of them in every room of the house because my dad plays tennis. I like to carry the balls in my mouth and take them all over the house. My mom works “virtually” 3 days a week, which means she is home all day, and I can sleep right by her feet. I stick to my mom. Even if she only gets up for a second to get a cup of coffee, I get up too and follow her. My best skill is resting and I’m starting to learn my new name, Doobie. I like being named after a musical group, because my dad plays keyboard in a neighborhood band. I already know several instructions: sit, down, come, and load up; and I’m working on stay – that’s a really hard one, I do stay for a few seconds, but mom and dad always want me to stay longer than a few seconds (tee, hee). I really like it here because I get tons of ear scratches and belly rubs when I nudge. Hey, if those hands aren’t busy they need to be on me! It felt like home from the first day I was here, Mom and Dad said that too. They had been volunteer fosters for AGA for a year and a half. I was their 7th foster dog and I’m the keeper.
