Duke is a 2 year old purebred male golden retriever who was turned into our program by his owners because he had a pretty bad obedience issue. He was stubborn and was one of those dogs who had been allowed to get away with lots of unacceptable behavior. Duke went off to our behaviorist for doggy bootcamp and bascially got his butt kicked. We then found a foster home who would enforce the rules and Duke was on his way to becoming a new dog. He loves other dogs and loves attention and now knows what “no” means. He also knows not to steal human food and not to bite if he doesn’t get his way! However, sometimes he can be rather vocal about his desires – we needed to find the perfect family for this guy that would continue to enforce the rule. Well, in this case the perfect family found us. Jennifer Arnold, the founder of Canine Assistants wanted a dog just like Duke. A sweet wonderful dog who was fine until you pushed them to do something they didn’t want to do. Jennifer has written a best seller called “Through a Dog’s Eyes” and her intent with Duke is not to manage him but to fix him. Fortunately, we have Duke’s background and in fact, we have connected his former owners with Jennifer and they even have all of his puppy videos! Duke is going to have a fabulous life. We’ve already received reports that he ran and ran on the grounds of Canine Assistants and met a few horses and a goat or two. He even has a new girl friend, a pretty golden girl. He is going to be one happy pup.
