UPDATE: Flower came into AGA in deplorable condition with a host of medical problems. She had several large masses, very bad teeth, had heartworms and weighed 116 lbs. We started working through her issues and she was doing so well we had released her to go to foster. A day before she was to be picked up she dramatically crashed, her kidney function values which had been normal went through the roof. She was rushed from the vet to GVS; her blood pressure was so low she was barely alive. Flower was diagnosed with Glomerulonephritis and was in renal failure. Glomerulonephritis is a specific kind of kidney disease where the part of the kidney that filters the blood is inflamed. The kidney inflammation was most likely due to her existing heartworm disease and was exacerbated by anesthesia and pain meds. Her prognosis was very poor. We treated her very aggressively hoping her kidneys improved. Unfortunately they didn’t. Despite doing everything we could, there was nothing more medically that could be done for her. We ended her suffering. RIP, sweet Flower. Background: Do you like my new name? I couldn’t remember my old one but whatever it was, “Flower” is much better because it makes me feel so pretty and hopeful that everything is going to turn out right. I am a 9 year old golden girl who has been through some bad times and ended up at the shelter. I have some things that the doctor is fixing, I had a test that said I need to take a very little pill every day. It’ doesn’t cost much at all and is the secret to why I gained so much weight. ( I weigh 116 pounds) Now I will lose a lot of those pounds- isn’t that great! Everyone says I am called “Flower” because I am beautiful and sweet and smell good! That hasn’t been true until lately. I was very dirty and had a bad smell (I couldn’t believe that nice lady let me in her car) but no longer. They had to shave off my whole coat because of the mats but that’s o.k. with me. I am so glad to get rid of it-it was very uncomfortable and now I can feel the breeze and the sunshine on my body. I have infected ears and my teeth needed cleaning. I’m sorry to say I also have Heartworms. It costs $500 to make them go away and a nice couple named Lisa & Chris Petty wanted to help me and paid for my treatment. They must love flowers? I hope to meet them soon. So many nice people and so many good things have happened in just a few days. It’s been a very long time since anyone really cared and now everyone I meet makes me feel special. The ladies at the doctor’s place were teasing me and said, “Flower, you are beautiful even if you are naked!” I laughed right along with them! Please ask about me- maybe you’d like to “pick” this Flower and take her home? Love, love, love, Flower.
