Gabby and Kirby are purebred golden retriever senior girls who were turned over to their vet to be put down. Gabby is 10 and Kirby is 9. Their owner could no longer care for them and did not want them to go to a rescue group because she felt they would be bounced around and not kept together. Plus Kirby had some skin problems and she felt no one would want a dog that looked like her. Fortunately they were easily handled with a little TLC from their foster family. They have been going to this same vet their entire lives and the vet refused to put them down. The former owner finally signed them over to the vet and we were contacted. They are very nice girls made of pure sweetness. In addition they are whole-heartedly devoted to one another and now their new family is equally devoted to them. Now these beautiful dignified senior ladies’ wishes have come true. Mom and dad are previous adopters who recently lost AGA Lilly – they emailed us stating “I lost my beautiful girl AGA Lilly, who we lost to kidney failure when she was 13 years old. I’ll always be thankful to Adopt a Golden Atlanta for bringing her into our life. I love old dogs and my wife said I could talk to you about bringing these girls into our life.” They then met this senior pair and knew they were put here to help these sweet ladies. Gabby and Miss Kirby now have a Golden brother, Jax, who caters to the young in them by getting them to run a little and play with him. They help Jax by softening the loss of his sister Lilly. Mom and dad schedules are flexible at work so they are often home to check on the brood. They may not be able to run a marathon or even a mile, they may tire – but they can chase my “young” pups around the yard, play ball, chew on sticks and simply love life! Now they feel loved and know “HOME” like the rest of us”.
