This is George – a handsome 5 year old purebred male Golden Retriever. George was a stud dog in a Missouri Puppy Mill. In celebration of his INDEPENDENCE and our own country’s independence and the fact that he is a father of some very special puppies, we named him George and his wife is named Martha. This is George’s Story. A few days before Memorial Day, we were notified that six goldens were being ‘retired’ from two separate breeders in Missouri. ‘Retired’ usually means one of two things: one breeder is finished with them and they will be sold to another breeder who could care less if their health could be at risk if they continue to breed OR it means that they may be shot. (Of those two choices, being shot is the kindest). A special thank you goes to one of our volunteers offered to drive to Missouri and get these dogs. On Memorial Day weekend, she drove back with all six. Four came from one breeder. George and Martha came from the second breeder. Initially we had to separate them but George actually cried without his wife. Now the two of them will never be apart again. They have been adopted by their foster family. Mom and dad spent many hours socializing these two. Now they actually seek out human contact. Mom looked at several adoption candidates but always had that little feeling that no one could give these two what she and her husband could. They are coming along great and the mom and dad look forward to continuing to love and protect this fabulous pair all their lives. Their future will now be filled with constant companionship, understanding, caring, long walks and wonderful parenting. They also have a doggie sister named Daisy, who also makes sure they feel right at home.
