Hogan is a male purebred golden who will be 7 years old in June, but surely has a lifetime of stories to tell on his journey to us. A couple came across him on a mountain hike and Hogan followed them home. Since he immediately presented his sweet disposition the couple took him in, but attempted to look for his rightful owner. Having no luck they turned him in to us. We sent Hogan to one of our vets to get scanned for a microchip. He had one—registered to a breeder, then sold to Petland and resold to someone who didn’t update the chip registration. Taking into account what poor shape Hogan was in (he was overweight, waddled with a limp, low thyroid, inflated liver enzyme reading and not yet neutered), we suspect he was used as a backyard breeder dog, got to the age where he wasn’t useful any longer, and then dumped in the mountains. We knew that he deserved better! Our great AGA vets reported that he’s the biggest cuddle bug and loves everyone. Now having his issues addressed (thanks to Cody, Annie and Henry Sr. and of course, their parents) he is on his way to dreamland – well, golden dreamland! Hogan’s adoption became official Sunday morning, May 2, 2010—on the 28th birthday of mom’s daughter. They will always share a special day. Mom is a kindergarten teacher in and a previous Golden owner, her 15-year-old furry girl passed away several years ago. It was love at first sight when mom meet Hogan. Then he had to pass the cat test. Of course, Hogan (true to form) was the perfect gentleman to them. Mom looked right past Hogan’s recent medical issues and fell in love with “the big mush.” Hogan also wants to thank his fosters for their love, dedication and TLC. It’s because of them that he was able to go far on the road to recovery. He even learned how much fun it is to play with toys! The days of neglect and wandering the streets are over for Hogan, and only good days filled with love from his new mom are ahead! He is truly an inspiration and role model to anyone suffering from physical maladies on the importance of a totally positive mental attitude to help one get well again. Some fairy tales really do come true!
