This is Holden, a big handsome male golden about 7 years old who was found wandering the streets. He was limping, thirsty and hungry. A good soul picked him up and spent weeks looking for his family but finally called us to help find him a loving family. Sadly, Holden had a lot of problems. He had so many ticks on him, he had gotten Rocky Mountain Fever, he had heartworms and cancer on his foot. Holden needed a sponsor to help pay for his medical treatment ($500)and a wonderful family in Tennessee who helped Holden when he was really in trouble paid for his treatment. John, Tricia, Angus and LuLu Becker will always be special to Holden. He had a mast cell tumor removed but then he started limping again. That’s when the toe with cancer was found. The toe was amputated and all the cancer was gone. Then we noticed he was having trouble seeing at night. After three vets couldn’t find anything wrong we took him to a specialist. The last test showed he had disease of the retina and was nightblind and his vision would progressively get worse in the coming years. This guy needed an angel in real life. Well, after several months we found his angel (of course, he had several other angels along the way). Holden is now living a wonderful, wonderful life in Birmingham. Alabama. Thanks to one of our volunteers for spearheading a fundraiser at a wine store there Holden met his new parents. Mom and dad were planning to come to adoption day but Holden decided he wanted to meet them right away and through our volunteers we made it happen. They had recently lost their senior golden and needed a new pal for their senior lab who was in mourning. Holden also needed to be welcoming to customers at their wine store. Well, on orientation day, things could not have gone better. Holden walked in like he owned the store. He walked all around and then met his two humans who immediately got on the floor. Magic was happening. Customers came into the store and Holden got up from being petted, walked over to them, welcomed them to HIS STORE with a nice tail wag and started his new career. Then it was off to the house to meet the other 4 footed guys. A short walk down the street and a meeting with a nice black lab – Sniff sniff, hello, nice to meet you,can I come in? — sure. All went well. Then Kit Kat came in, and all went well with him too! Now when he’s not at work greeting customers or playing with his new siblings he’s lying in sun room napping and soaking up the sun. Holden is finally home!
