Laker is a young male purebred golden retriever – probably about 2 years old. A young family, (wife, husband and 3 year old son) were shopping at a strip mall near closing time and noticed a golden retriever tied to a tree in the heat! The wife was furious and demanded that they wait so she could give the owner a piece of her mind! They waited, and waited, and waited…45 minutes and no one showed up. She went to all the stores and asked if anyone had said anything about the dog and asked that announcements be made over the paging systems. No one stepped forward to claim him. The manager of the last store she stopped at said he was going to call animal control to come get him. She said, “no way”, I’ll take him home. Then she called us to help! After a trip to the vet we found him to be healthy but with lots of fleas. We named him Laker because he was found on the day the Lakers won the NBA Championship and celebration was in the air – maybe he was celebrating then too. Now he certainly is because he has a wonderful new home. Mom and dad fell for this sweet guy the moment they met him and when they heard his story they vowed to never make him feel unwanted again. Now he’ll live the life he deserves alongside his 6 year old German Shepherd sister who is quickly teaching him the ropes of family life.
