Meet Leo, he was found as a stray in Alabama. He was starving. In fact, Leo was emaciated. He weighed only 35 pounds and was literally skin and bones. He has to put on at least 25 pounds. He was very anemic from poor nutrition however surprisingly, his kidney and liver values were normal. After several months of puppy food, meds for tick exposure and subQ B12 shots he is much, much better. He has put on more than 10 pounds and well on his way to becoming the healthy beautiful dog he always was on the inside! Our initial plan was to keep him for a long period of time until he became fully stabilized. However, the big furry guy upstairs was looking out for him and sent golden angels his way. Now Leo has been adopted by the family who first sponsored him through his heartworm treatment in memory of their Meggie, a German Shepherd/Jack Russell mix who reigned over the golden retrievers she lived with for many happy years. After a two hour meeting, they begged us to be allowed to adopt him NOW and they vowed to take the best care of him. We felt they were sent our way by a higher power and simply couldn’t resist! In addition, we kept thinking of the bond that Leo and his new family will build and share for the rest of their lives. They will be consulting with Dr. Wynn at GVS who will be his nutritionist and when he well enough, he will be neutered. When Leo meet his golden siblings, Elliott a 13 year old and Coleman who is nearly 8, their tails never stopped wagging! They welcomed Leo (who will be keeping his name) eagerly into their loving home!
