UPDATE: MILKSHAKE IS GETTING BETTER! LOOK AT HIM NOW. HIS FOSTER MOM IS A GREAT CAREGIVER AND WITH HIS MEDS AND MEDICATED BATHS, HIS HAIR IS GROWING BACK AND HE IS FEELING LIKE A PUPPY AGAIN! BACKGROUND: We have named this poor boy Milkshake. He is in such bad shape that everyone thought he was an old dog but once our vet examined him, we found out that he is only about 18 months old! He has a terrible skin infection that his entire coat has large patches of missing hair. He has scabs all over. He was in pain and miserable. His nails had never been cut. They curled under. He was picked up as a stray and only had a day left before they would put him down. A kind soul pulled him out of the shelter and took him to a vet and then put the word out for help. Someone had to come to this dog’s rescue. Some groups said they would come. When we found out that two rescues backed out, we said we would take him and nurse him back to health. One of our dedicated volunteers drove to get him. We don’t know what this dog has gone through but it must have been simply terrible. He is very quiet and depressed. He doesn’t et too far away from you but he is scared. He just looks at you and stands close. No tail wagging. We don’t know if anyone has ever petted him in his short life. He likes his ears scratched. He needs love and attention. He is getting medicated baths but his raw skin must be painful. He is sleeping alot on a blanket but today he wagged his tail. He is healthy otherwise. Milkshake will stay at the vet until he starts feeling better. We will be looking for a special foster family to care for him and to show him how wonderful life can be. Milkshake is a real rescue story and we are determined to transform him into the handsome fellow we know he can be. But more important than looks, we will get that tail wagging and the sparkle back in his eyes. He was scheming and planning and scheming some more – on how to work his way right into his foster mom’s heart. Well, good job Milkshake, you did it! Mom has cared so much for this sweet boy she can’t imagine letting him go. So she decided to make it official and adopt him. We think he already knew this was home so we are certainly glad that mom realized it. He is a happy boy and his skin condition is getting better and better. We can’t wait to see new pictures.
