When we brought Ollie into our program she didn’t know she was very sick. She is happy, sweet and loving, graciously offering her paw to anyone who stops to speak to her. She certainly would have had a hard time understanding unpronounceable words like squamous cell carcinoma and partial mandibulectomy. If she could have understood we would explain to her that she had a large cancerous tumor in her mouth and the tumor and a part of her lower jaw had to be removed to save her life. As scary as it sounds, we would reassure her that following surgery and recovery, she would be able to chow down on regular dog food and treats, will mostly retain her beautiful appearance and most importantly will enjoy a normal life span. But thanks to all of her friends out there who donated money for her surgery, Ollie is cured! Ollie is doing great and her biopsy came back all clear. She will hopefully have a long life. Here is a new photo of her. You can see her tongue hanging but she is getting better keeping it in her mouth as she strengthens her tongue muscles. Ollie and Ozzie came as a sister and brother pair and we had no intention of separating them until we saw how well they each did without each other. Ozzie fell in love with a real golden girlfriend and Ollie found her forever home right in the heart of her fosters. They nursed her back to health and having seen her through such a rough time their bond with her grew. She came to love and trust them and they came to love and trust her. In addition, Maggie, their 3 year old dog, grew to love her too. The big Golden in the sky knew these two needed each other. Maggie suffers from separation anxiety and having Ollie around has helped her tremendously and Maggie has helped Ollie remember what it’s like to romp and play again. Ollie the life all goldens dream about, the perfect mom & dad and her new best friend Maggie!
