Meet Pretzel, a poor sweet 8 year old soul who had obviously been through so much and we will never know exactly what. The shelter who had him, sent out an urgent plea to ALL rescues in the metro area. Adopt a Golden Atlanta was the only one to respond. No, he isn’t a purebred golden retriever but when we saw him we knew he deserved a chance and we could not let him suffer in the shelter. He is a golden shepherd mix who came into Animal Control with terrible wounds on his back. We are not sure what caused them. They were not scrape wounds nor were they caused by machinery. They were not bite wounds. Our vet guesses that something was poured on him, maybe scalding water or acid. Whatever happened to this boy was horrible to say the least. His wounds were infected and abscessed. We have posted photos of his back, which is now so much better. In addition to his injuries he was also heartworm positive, both his eyes were infected, his canine teeth were jagged and broken and had to be removed, and was so infested with fleas, his hair was “crunchy”. We estimated we needed to raise $1,200 and our supporters surpassed that! Pretzel is a very nice boy despite what he has been through. The good news is our vet believes his hair will grow back once the infection was gone and the tissue becomes healthy and he was right! We gave him a fun name because we don’t think he has had much of that in his life. He needed a family who could show him what love is and protect him from mean, cruel people. Along with the help of our sponsors Pretzel had a wonderful foster family who slowly and patiently nursed this sweet boy back to health. He is now happy, healthy and receiving boundless amounts of love in his perfect new home. His new mom is a former AGA adopter who knew that she had to meet our Pretzel the moment she read about him. She instantly fell in love with him and he with her. They both knew they had to save each other! So, with Pretzel’s paw of approval and a wag of his tail mom adopted Pretzel. Now they are loving life with one another. Mom is retired so she’ll get endless amounts of attention from her new boy. He’s even convinced mom to give him a permanent place on the bed – of course, take didn’t take much effort. She was wrapped around his paw from the moment they met. Life is going to be good (for both).
