This is Scooter, our sweet 10 year old golden boy that we loved dearly but just couldn’t help. He was found wandering the University of Alabama campus. He showed up an a young girl’s door and she fed & watered Scooter (as they started calling him) and kept him in her backyard so he would not get run over while she searched for his owner (to no avail). She described him as follows: “Scooter is underfed and a bit timid; he cries/whimpers when someone comes outside to see him and welcomes petting but he doesn’t flop over for belly rubs. He had 6″ long mats of hair from behind both ears and acorn-sized hard mats from the middle of all 4 paws and mats in his feathers and around his toes. He has what appears to be almost healed road-rash on his upper left hip”. So, of course we said we would help this poor boy! He was transported to Atlanta and examined by one of our vets. Unfortunately in addition to heartworms he had several inoperable tumors that were causing him to be uncomfortable and lose his dignity. This may have been why he always whimpered. Sadly, his overall health had deteriorated to a point where his system was starting to fail him so we had to help. With very heavy hearts we helped our Scooter cross the Rainbow Bridge. Thankfully, he is in a better place now.
