UPDATE: 11/8: We have placed Scotty with his foster mom who is caring for him. His long term prognosis is not good and Scotty needs to stay with his foster mom and foster golden sister where he is loved and cared for. UPDATE 9/12: Look at Scotty’s new photo in his foster mom’s garden. He is still improving every day. On lots of medications – some for life. UPDATE 8/6: Scotty had his surgery – neuter, 5 rocks removed from his stomach, some teeth removed and there was a mass on his spleen so it was taken out. We just got back the pathology report and it was NOT cancer. Yeah, this boy is fighter! His bladder is starting to work and now all we have to do is kill those heartworms. Thank you all for caring and supporting this guy. We still need to raise some serious money for him but we are confident he is going to make it. UPDATE 7/29: Scotty has an infection that is sensitive to the antibiotic he’s on so we are starting him on another today. He is unable to empty his bladder at this time. Otherwise he’s doing as well as can be expected. He may be well enough to handle surgery later this week or next week. We have to extract a tooth and may have to remove 5 rocks that are still in his stomach. He is blind in one eye and doesn’t hear well. SCOTTY’S STORY: I was a very lost, 10 year old boy and in a lot of trouble when the people at the shelter first found me. I had so many things that were making me feel really bad that I don’t know where to start. First I had the worst sore on my whole back that anyone had ever seen. It had those worm things called maggots in it and it was so, so awful and it hurt! You can sorta see it in my photo but I didn’t want you to see it all. I couldn’t see or hear very well – that was because of more infections. I hope when the infections are gone that will get better. My teeth are very bad too because I was so hungry I started eating rocks off the ground because I couldn’t find food. Every day things got worse and worse and my back and legs hurt from walking so much and it was hot and I was ready to give up. I only weigh 60 pounds even though I should weigh 70 or 75 and I’m not too strong just now. The shelter people tried to clean up my back and then they did something that saved my life. They asked AGA to come and get me and now I am at the doctor’s place and they are caring for me. They took pictures of my insides and saw all the rocks there. Some of them came out but I still have five in my stomach. They took some blood from my arm and it showed that I have heartworms too. More pictures showed my heart was a little too big and my lungs didn’t feel well either. Maybe, they think, that’s from the heartworms. I can’t see out of my right eye. I had so many mats and ticks and fleas that they had to shave my coat off before they could give me a bath. But that’s OK because afterwards I got all dried off and got to rest on a soft bed with a dish of real food for my dinner That was the best I’d felt in a long time but I didn’t have much of an appetite. I guess I was just too tired to eat, even though that’s getting better. It may be a while before I am healthy again. You have to take one step at a time and I am letting my doctor make all the choices as to what I need. I will have to stay here for a while but I don’t mind. People are being kind to me. I know I am costing AGA a lot of money but they said not to worry—-they’d find a whole bunch of friends for me that will help out. They have started a fundmeter for me to pay my medical bills. I haven’t felt like wagging my tail for a long time but maybe if I could see that a lot of people really cared about me I could wag it again. Thank you for caring about me. Scotty
