Skipper is a 3-4 year old male golden. He was rescued from a high kill shelter in a rural county in Georgia. When we brought him in Skipper was only 50lbs and needed to gain some serious weight. He had a problem with his rear leg which we think is from an old injury like being hit by a car. Xrays showed his leg bone and pelvis had been broken and were never treated so they has healed improperly. After a trip to the orthopedic surgeon it was learned that without an operation, Skipper will never be able to put weight on his back leg and without continued use, the muscles would atrophy and he would have to lose the leg. In addition, he was in pain since he couldn’t straighten the leg. To make matters worse, the operation that may help him regain the use of this leg, may fail and amputation would be the end result. But we had to try and thankfully the operation was a success. He is actually walking on all fours for the first time in a long time. Skipper is so grateful to everyone who has contributed to his fund because now he has a forever home where he will grow stronger and healthier each day. Skipper was adopted by a wonderful couple who are true dog lovers. They have adopted dogs before and have lots of love to give. Skipper shares his new mom and dad with a 9 year old golden retriever sister whom he met and felt in love with instantly. Skipper will finally get to enjoy a pain free future and a golden forever!
