Thunder is a 1-2 year old male golden that was found by the road by a good samaritan and then taken to the ER. They called us. He was originally thought to be hit by a car but now we are thinking he was either thrown from a moving car or fell out of a moving open bed truck. He has a black eye and multiple deep lacerations that are stitched and stapled together. He has road rash everywhere, even his tail. He also has a tear of the interior collateral ligament which runs inside the leg and helps stabilize the knee. For now, Thunder has a large leg splint that goes over his entire front leg and then loops over the shoulder to hold everything is place. He will go back for re-checks and re-splinting on a weekly basis. He will need to be on complete rest except for bathrooms breaks on a leash. No steps, no running, jumping, playing, etc. Despite all of this, he wagged his tail in greeting us and limped out and promptly rolled over for a belly rub and gave us his paw. He is just happy and sweet and has the classic Golden look, solidly built with a squarish head, a very beautiful blonde/gold color. He is going to be very handsome when he heals. We put him in foster care so he could get better. Now his heart is happy too because his foster family just became his forever family. His vet bill so far is $1,200 and fortunately we raised all the money to pay his bill. We thank our friends at Dekalb Tie for making the first donation for his care and for everyone else who contributed to the Thunder Fund! In his new home, he has 3 terrific females, mom and her 2 girls, to look after. Of course, he has a little help from his new 6 year old golden brother Kona and a small 2 year old feline named “Small Cat”. Mom is quite the animal advocate and we, along with Thunder, thank her for taking care of this sweet boy!
