Meet Tinsel, our little miracle pup. She is one of 10 purebred golden retriever puppies that came in over the holidays. The small breeder we got this litter from has decided to stop breeding and before he could have his female spayed, she was pregnant again. This little fuzz ball has already had a lifetime’s share of struggles. At about 8 weeks old she had an emergency surgery to remove a portion of her intestines – a section that absorbs nutrients. After her surgery things were really touch and go for a long time but thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers and a terrific veterinarian (and staff), Tinsel is finally living the good life at home with her new family. She has a new mom, dad, two teenaged girls and 9 year old twin boys. Tinsel even has a new name – Betsy. Betsy is the first dog for this family and we’re sure that she will break them in just right with her sweet demeanor. She is very loyal and loves giving puppy kisses and rolling over for a good belly rub. She enjoys playing tug o war with a rope and is getting good at fetching tennis balls. Her foster mom nursed Tinsel back to health and was with her around the clock – just like a protective golden mom! Now she has a stay at home mom which was essential since she has to be fed 5 times a day until she is full grown. She is now on regular dog food and is doing well but will have to see the nutritionist at GVS monthly until she is at least 9 months old. She also has to have weekly vitamin B-12 shots. Tinsel or Betsy has a pool at her new home and her kids have promised to teach her how to swim this spring. Tinsel wants to thank the many people that looked after her and especially thank her little friends Barrett and Christopher. They even sold cookies outside Dad’s store to raise money for her operation! Rah, rah Tinsel.
