This is Trout, a wonderful 12 year old male golden retriever whose owner brought him to a shelter and declared that he and his wife just had a baby and they could not cope with the dog and the baby. He had had Trout since Trout was 6 weeks old. When the shelter told him that is was almost certain that no one would adopt a 12 year old dog and that Trout would be killed, the man cried and then said, “my wife can’t handle it.” We were called and were there within the hour to get him. Trout certainly doesn’t act 12 years old. He is playful and goes from one person to the next for attention. He is house broken and knows some basic commands like sit. His tail wags pretty much non-stop and when he gets really excited it twirls like a helicopter blade. He is good with dogs and children. He is great on the leash. He sees and hears just fine. He is no trouble and just wants love. He deserves that at the very least. And, to the family who threw him aside: An Indian legend says: “When a human dies there is a bridge they must cross to enter into Heaven. At the head of the bridge waits every animal that human encountered during their lifetime. The animals, based on what they know of each person, decide which humans may cross the bridge…and which are turned away.” No more sad, lonely days for this sweet guy. He has just been adopted by a wonderful family. He now has a great new backyard and a slightly younger brother named Tanner who has quickly become his best friend. Tanner has eagerly agreed to share her family with this pretty boy. Trout also has 2 new feline companions, Gaven and Smo, to join in the fun. His new parents are great and best of all they are dedicated to their pets. He will never again be given up!
