Vanderbilt or Vandy for short was a 3 year old male golden retriever who came from North Georgia. He was picked up as a stray after the tornados and turned into the shelter. He was not posted on any lost dog sites. Unfortunately, Vandy had heartworms and needed a sponsor to pay for his treatment ($500). Well Vanderbilt had some pretty nice angels: Krista, a former AGA golden, Ellie, Prissy and Jake Willman. Thanks Willman Gang! Vandy was also on a diet to lose 15 extra pounds. Vandy was adopted soon after he was done his heartworm treatment. A lady recently lost a golden when the dog sitter dropped the leash and he was killed by a passing car. She was devastated and her female mixed golden has been very sad since losing her best friend. She met Vandy and decided he was the one. Yesterday, Vandy’s foster spent 2 1/2 hours with the adopter and the dog trainer to make sure this was the right fit. They also spent part of that time buying tags, leashes, collars, and toys, just to make sure he was properly welcomed. Vandy will soon be entering formal training and hopefully his darting out the door days will soon be over. Vandy will now live in Athens, have a 4 yr old canine sister to play with and 2 grandchildren 8 and 13 that will come visit. Thank you to the fosters for nursing Vandy back to health after his long battle with heartworms and finding him this great home.
